Tim Long is one of the UK's top up-and-coming sports commentators, covering football, basketball, and volleyball.
Tim commentates on Manchester United first-team, under 21s, and under 18s for MUTV, where on occasion he also presents the match-day show, either on-location or in-studio at Old Trafford.
Tim is also one of the main voices of talkSPORT international's live Barclays Premier League coverage, which airs globally on national radio stations in the USA, Asia, and Africa. For the service, Tim often presents the match-day show and commentates on 'A' games, such as Manchester United vs Liverpool.
Tim has commentated on live Serie A and Ligue 1 games for UK national television station BT Sport, and is also a regular world feed TV commentator, covering FIFA World Cup Qualifiers & international friendlies.
As a freelance football commentator, Tim now has more than 500 full live match commentaries under his belt, covering top level competitions around the world, that also include the Dutch Eredivisie and South American Copa Libertadores. Tim has also reported on live football for the BBC.
As a basketball commentator, Tim covers European basketball's champions league, the Turkish Airlines Euroleague, and FIBA club competitions for livebasketball.tv. He also travels to provide world feed TV commentary on FIBA international competitions, such as EuroBasket and the Asian Championships, from places such as Croatia & China.
In 2014, Tim started commentary on FIVB World Tour volleyball events. These have included the 2015 Beach Volleyball World Championships in Holland, as well as Open tournaments in South Africa and Qatar.
Tim has a great knowledge of football around the world having covered games on four continents. He prides himself on his quantity and quality of research for each assignment - a key part of a successful commentary comes with hard work and preparation long before picking up a microphone. Having given up a secure career as a lawyer to follow his life dream, Tim's motivation for success and passion for sports and broadcasting is unsurpassed.
In August 2011, Tim's radio documentary, Beyond the Goal-line: Football's Technology Debate, was commissioned and broadcast by BBC London, BBC Manchester, BBC WM and the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC Radio National). For the programme Tim secured several big name interviews, including BBC commentator, John Motson, PFA Chief Executive, Gordon Taylor, LMA Chief Executive, Richard Bevan, and former FIFA referees, Graham Poll and Dermot Gallagher.
Tim has filled multiple guest spots on the Sony Radio Academy Awards' UK Station of the year, talkSPORT, and was interviewed regarding his story on refereeing decisions in the 2011-12 Premier League on BBC Radio 5 Live Drive.
As a writer, Tim has had multiple byline pieces published in leading UK national newspaper, the Daily Telegraph, on telegraph.co.uk, and in large consumer magazines around the world, such as Kick Off magazine (South Africa).
In addition to a Masters Degree in Sports Journalism with Distinction, Tim has a First Class Honours Degree in Law and passed his Legal Practice Course (LPC), also averaging a Distinction.
